Description
本發明與無線通信系統有關。更特別是,本發明與以多模式無線傳輸/接收單元(WTRU)實行不同無線存取技術(RAT)時切換彼此相連之無線通信系統間無線存取技術之方法及系統有關。
全球行動電信系統(UMTS)及無線區域網路(WLAN)技術被廣泛用於目前無線通信系統中。因為全球行動電信系統及無線區域網路之涵蓋區域通常被重疊,所以全球行動電信系統及無線區域網路之互作被發展。互作無線區域網路(I-WLAN)為具有對全球行動電信系統核心網路之無線區域網路,所以全球行動電信系統提供之服務可經由互作無線區域網路來轉傳。
目前,互作無線區域網路之網路選擇要求無線傳輸/接收單元使用其服務組識別符(SSIDs)來掃描可用無線區域網路系統。服務組識別符掃描可被動或主動達成。被動掃描時,無線傳輸/接收單元觀察來自各無線區域網路之資訊廣播,並依據信號強度來決定其可用性。主動掃描時,無線傳輸/接收單元傳送包括特定無線區域網路服務組識別符之探測要求,並等待來自該無線區域網路可用性之確認。
然而,這些技術並不提供可存取全球行動通訊系統為基礎服務之任何無線區域網路(服務組識別符)指示。若干解決方案被設計包括於無線區域網路上傳播頻道上傳播家用公眾陸上行動網路(PLMN)識別。然而,
因為無線區域網路服務組識別符並非唯一,所以該技術易被模仿(破壞性無線區域網路操作者可傳播相同服務組識別符及公眾陸上行動網路識別符)。
因此,由於無線傳輸/接收單元必須選擇自及破壞性操作者使用類似服務組識別符來引導訊務朝向其網路減輕之大量無線區域網路(服務組識別符),為連接至全球行動電信系統為基礎服務之全球行動電信系統為基礎互作無線區域網路選擇識別符可能有問題。於是,需要一種提供對全球行動電信系統為基礎服務之存取之無線區域網路(服務組識別符)指示。
本發明當以多模式無線傳輸/接收單元實行不同無線存取技術時切換彼此相連之無線通信系統間無線存取技術之方法及系統。多個無線通信系統係被配置於重疊涵蓋區域,其中各無線通信系統實行不同無線存取技術、且彼此相連使由無線通信系統提供之服務可經由其他無線通信系統來提供。各無線通信系統傳送各無線通信系統涵蓋區域中之互作無線通信系統存在之指示。無線傳輸/接收單元接收有關互作無線通信系統之指示及資訊。無線傳輸/接收單元接著使用該被接收資訊啟動對互作無線通信系統之交遞,藉此無線傳輸/接收單元繼續接收相同於無線傳輸/接收單元經由互作無線通信系統接收來自目前被連接無線通信系統之服務。本發明有助於降低多模式無線傳輸/接收單元選擇及認證互作無線通信系統所需時間。

此後,"無線傳輸/接收單元"名詞包括但不限於使用者設何其他類型元件。此後,當被稱為"基地台"及"存取點"名詞者包括但不限於B節點,位址控制器,或無線環境中之任何其他接介裝置。
第1圖為依據本發明之無線通信系統100方塊圖。系統100包括實行不同無線存取技術之至少兩個不同類型無線通信網路110,120。例如第1圖所示,一類無線網路為較佳操作於第三代夥伴計劃(3GPP)標準下之全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路(見全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110),而另一類無線網路為較佳操作於IEEE802.11標準下之無線區域網路120。為了說明本發明,僅一個全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110被顯示。然而,應注意,如本領域技術人士熟知,全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路通常包括多個胞元。
為了方便,本發明參考全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路及無線區域網路來說明。然而,應注意,了解本發明可被應用於任何類型無線通信系統,且另外可具有兩種以上不同類型無線通信系統,對本領域技術人士而言是顯而易見的。
無線通信系統110,120涵蓋區域彼此重疊。如在此使用之全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路-無線區域網路例子,無線區域網路120涵蓋區域通常位於全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110較大涵蓋區域內。無線區域網路120被連接至全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110,使被提供於全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110內之服務可經由無線區域網路120被轉傳至多模式無線傳輸/接收單元102。因此,如上述,無線區域網路120亦被稱為互作無線區域網路。位於重疊區域中之多模式無線傳輸/接收單元102可同時存取兩類無線通信系統,且可經由另一網路接收一網路所提供之服務。
依據本發明,全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110傳送任何互作無線區域網路存在之指示,或替代地傳送位於全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110內之互作無線區域網路之服務組識別符列表至無線傳輸/接收單元102。該指示或服務組識別符表列可如預期地被傳送。例如,其可經由傳播控制頻道(BCCH)傳播或經由專用控制頻道(DCCH)傳送。其中系統100被配置於傳播控制頻道上傳送該指示或列表,當連接
至全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110或建立無線承載時,無線傳輸/接收單元可能但卻不需提供其無線區域網路容量(也就是無論其是否可操作於無線區域網路)。
依據第一實施例,僅全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110內之任何互作無線區域網路存在之指示被傳送。如上述,該指示可如預期般被傳送,但較佳被傳送於該胞元110之傳播控制頻道上或專用控制頻道上。無線傳輸/接收單元102接收該指示,且若系統間交遞之預定準則(也就是將無線傳輸/接收單元102從全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110交遞至無線區域網路120之預定準則)被滿足,則無線傳輸/接收單元102從全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110要求服務組識別符表列。當然,應了解預定準則可為任何類型準則,且是否實際執行系統間交遞的評估可藉由無線傳輸/接收單元102或交遞可發生自之網路之任何網路組件來評估,其於此例中為全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路。一旦無線傳輸/接收單元102接收服務組識別符表列,則服務組識別符被被動或主動使用來掃描,連結及認證在互作無線區域網路120內之適當存取點。此方案確保無線傳輸/接收單元102可存取對的無線區域網路存取點,其提供了全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110及其第三代夥伴計劃為基礎服務之連接。系統間交遞準則被滿足且有互作無線區域網路120內之適當存取點來交遞者,無線傳輸/接收單元102被交遞至互作無線區域網路120且開始操作於其間。
可替代是,無線傳輸/接收單元102可於評估系統間交遞準則之前要求服務組識別符表列,以確認執行該評估之前是否具有適用存取點。
依據第二實施例,系統100如上述作操作,但在此實施例中,替代了第一傳送全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110內任何互作無線區域網路存在之指示,全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110僅傳送服務組識別符表列。此可提供服務組識別符表列不太高之加強效能。是否實行該第一或第二實施例屬操作者喜好。
第2圖為依據本發明之切換無線存取技術之處理200流程
圖。多個無線通信系統被配置重疊涵蓋區域。各無線通信系統實行不同無線存取技術,且被配置以使一個無線通信系統所提供之服務可經由其他無線通信系統來提供。
各無線通信系統傳送互作無線通信系統存在之指示,可選擇地與實行不同無線存取技術於各無線通信系統涵蓋區域內之替代無線通信系統之資訊(包括識別符,頻率等)一起傳送(步驟202)。該指示及/或資訊可被傳播至無線傳輸/接收單元,或可經由專用頻道被傳送給無線傳輸/接收單元。無線傳輸/接收單元可經由目前被連接無線通信系統(也就是無線傳輸/接收單元目前被連接之無線通信系統)來接收該指示及/或資訊(步驟204)。
可替代是,該指示及/或資訊可被傳送以回應該資訊之要求訊息或來自該無線傳輸/接收單元之功能報告。回應時,目前被連接之無線通信系統傳送互作無線通信系統可用性指示及/或有關無線通信系統之指示至無線傳輸/接收單元。該例中,該指示及/或資訊可經由專用控制頻道被傳送至無線傳輸/接收單元。
接收該指示及/或資訊之後,決定是否啟動對互作無線通信系統之交遞(步驟206)。如上述,此決定可於網路或無線傳輸/接收單元處被達成,且可以如預期以任何預定準則為基礎。該交遞可藉由使用者之要求來啟動或以服務要求為基礎被獨立啟動。無線傳輸/接收單元可於其顯示螢幕上顯示互作無線通信系統之可用性或提供警告相同使用者之警報。若決定將無線傳輸/接收單元交遞至互作無線通信系統且若僅有該指示被傳送時,則無線傳輸/接收單元要求有關互作無線通信系統之資訊並從該目前被連接無線通信系統接收它(步驟208)。若該資訊已經與該指示一起被傳送或僅是無任何指示而被傳送,則步驟208被跳過。無線傳輸/接收單元接著使用該被接收資訊啟動交遞程序(步驟210)。
如在此被使用之全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路-無線區域網路例之情況中,該資訊可為互作無線區域網路之服務組識別符,且可選擇地進一步包括對應公用陸上行動網路識別符及各服務組識別符之對應座標(也就是位置)。無線傳輸/接收單元可於接收互作無線區域網路之服務組識別符之後啟動主動或被動掃描被辨識的無線區域網路。該無線區域
網路之掃描可被限制為該被接收服務組識別符識別之無線區域網路。
與特定無線區域網路存取點之連結可以頻道品質量測為基礎。若來自所有無線區域網路之頻道品質量測位於預定門檻下,則起始全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路連接被維持。若可被接受的無線區域網路存取點被找到,則全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路可被通知胞元改變於胞元改變之專用頻道上。連接安全可藉由如有線等位私密(WEP)資訊之資訊來致動。無線傳輸/接收單元繼續掃描無線區域網路連結及取消連結之共同服務組識別符存取點。若可被接受的存取點未被找到,則無線傳輸/接收單元可掃描被已知服務組識別符辨識之替代無線區域網路,或回復至全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路連接。此例中,無線存取技術胞元間改變指示可被傳送。交遞無線存取技術之選擇可以預定門檻內之品質量測為基礎自動或被使用者輸入手動控制。無線存取技術胞元改變之後,無線傳輸/接收單元繼續接收相同於無線傳輸/接收單元經由替代無線通信系統接收來自目前被連接無線通信系統之服務。
依據本發明,第三圖為用於交換無線傳輸/接收單元102,全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110及無線區域網路120間之訊息而用於從全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110至無線區域網路120之交遞之示例程序300之信號傳送圖。全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110傳送任何互作無線區域網路可用性之指示(及/或選擇性與可用無線區域網路之服務組識別符表列一起)(步驟302)。該傳輸可藉由來自指示無線傳輸/接收單元102之無線區域網路功能之無線傳輸/接收單元102之報告來啟動。無線傳輸/接收單元102接收互作無線區域網路可用指示及/或服務組識別符表列(步驟304)。在僅指示被傳送之例中,無線傳輸/接收單元102傳送無線區域網路之服務組識別符要求(步驟306)。在服務組識別符表列與指示一起被傳送或表列不與任何指示被傳送之例中,步驟306-310被省略。接收要求時,全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110擷取服務組識別符資訊(步驟308)。全球行動電信系統地面無線存取網路胞元110傳送無線區域網路服務組識別符表列及選擇性其相關位置及公眾陸上行動網路識別符(步驟310)。接收服務組識別符表列之後,無線傳輸/接收單元102

Claims (14)
