Description

LED驅動拓樸結構、以其為基礎的光源模組、及使用該LED驅動拓樸 結構的數位相機
本發明係有關一種LED驅動拓樸結構(topology),特別是關於一種數位相機的LED光源模組。
LED兩端的壓差必須大於其截止(cutoff)電壓,才能使其導通。目前的LED應用通常將數個LED串聯成陣列,因此需要較高的電壓才能驅動LED陣列。然而在某些裝置中,特別是可攜式或手持式裝置,其電源供應器提供的電壓限制了可驅動LED的數量,因此需要增加升壓電路產生更高的電壓給LED驅動器。使用升壓電路除了增加成本和電路的尺寸,也帶來另一個缺點。因為使用的電壓更高,所以LED驅動器的電路必須使用高壓製程製造,進一步增加成本和晶片的尺寸,也造成其電路無法與低壓晶片整合在一起。
圖1顯示一種習知的LED驅動器,包括電感L、功率開關M和二極體D配置成升壓電路,將電壓Vin升壓後施加到LED陣列10上。圖2係另一種習知的LED驅動器,其可被視為一個受控的電流源12,供應的電流值決定了LED陣列10的亮度。在這種拓樸結構中,LED陣列10兩端的壓差被限制在Vin以下,因此可以點亮的LED數量受此電壓Vin的限制。若Vd為單一LED的順向偏壓,則可以點亮的LED數量N<(Vin/Vd)。假設Vd=3.5V,則三個 串聯的LED就需要10.5V的驅動電壓。在現有的拓樸結構中,如果想要串聯更多LED來提高光源的亮度,唯有將電壓Vin升壓到更高的準位。
本發明的目的之一,在於提出一種新的LED驅動拓樸結構。
本發明的目的之一,在於提出一種較低成本的LED光源模組。
根據本發明,一種LED驅動拓樸結構包括一LED陣列與一電流源串聯在二電源輸入端之間,該二電源輸入端分別連接正電壓及負電壓。此拓樸結構增加該LED陣列兩端的相對壓差,因此增加可以點亮的LED的數量,不需要額外設置升壓電路或提供高電壓,且該電流源的電路可以使用低壓製程製造。
根據本發明,一種光源模組包括一LED陣列與一電流源串聯在第一與第二電源輸入端之間,以及一電源供應器將一電源電壓轉換為一負電壓。該第一電源輸入端連接一正電壓,該第二電源輸入端連接該負電壓。
因為數位相機原本就有電源供應器提供負電壓給感光元件(例如電荷耦合元件(Charge-Coupled Device; CCD)),因此,上述光源模組應用在數位相機時,不需要額外的升壓電路或提供高電壓,即可產生更大的壓差給LED陣列使用。
LED啟動時所需的導通電壓是LED兩端的相對壓差,而非單一端點的絕對電壓。習知的LED驅動拓樸因為將低壓端接地,所以造成前述應用上的限制。本發明提出一種新的LED驅動拓樸,其供應負電壓給LED陣列的低壓端,因此可以突破前述的限制。
以數位相機為例,圖3係根據本發明為其設計的LED光源模組。數位相機裡的感光元件(例如CCD元件)14原本就需要使用正電壓和負電壓,常見的規格包括+12V/-6V、+14V/-7V及+16V/-8V等,本實施例係以+12V/-6V為例。數位相機的電源電壓Vin2在電源供應器16中被電感L1、功率開關M1和二極體D1組成的升壓電路轉換為+12V,以及被電感L2、功率開關M2和二極體D2組成的反相降壓電路轉換為-6V,這兩個電壓供應給感光元件14。LED陣列10與電流源12串聯在二電源輸入端之間,其中高壓端連接正電壓Vin1,低壓端Vneg連接電源供應器16提供的負電壓-6V,電流源12可以如圖3所示之設置在靠正電壓端,或者設置在如圖4所示之靠負電壓端。如果Vin1與Vin2皆為12V,則LED陣列10上的壓差可達到12+|-6|=18V,因此可驅動的LED數量N=5(18/3.5=5.14)。同樣驅動5顆白光LED,習知的驅動拓樸結構需要將電源電壓Vin1從12V升壓到18V。與習知技術相比,本實施例不需要額外的升壓電路便可驅動5顆白 光LED,成本較低。
在其他實施例中,可以使用較低的電源電壓Vin1。例如電壓Vin1為+6V,LED陣列10兩端的相對壓差為12V(6+|-6|=12),仍足以導通3顆(12/3.5=3.4)白光LED,且作為電流源12的驅動器不必承受+10V以上的高電壓,可以選用低壓的IC製程製造,進一步降低成本。

Claims (6)

  1. 一種LED驅動拓樸結構,包括:第一電源輸入端,連接一正電壓;第二電源輸入端,連接一負電壓;一LED陣列,連接在該第一與第二電源輸入端之間;以及一電流源,與該LED陣列串聯;其中,該正電壓及該負電壓皆以接地電位為電壓基準,該正電壓是大於該接地電位的電壓,該負電壓是小於該接地電位的電壓。
  2. 一種光源模組,包括:第一電源輸入端,連接一正電壓;第二電源輸入端;一LED陣列,連接在該第一與第二電源輸入端之間;一電流源,與該LED陣列串聯;以及一電源供應器,將一電源電壓轉換為一負電壓供應給該第二電源輸入端;其中,該正電壓及該負電壓皆以接地電位為電壓基準,該正電壓是大於該接地電位的電壓,該負電壓是小於該接地電位的電壓。
  3. 如請求項2的LED光源模組,其中該電源供應器包括一反相降壓電路將該電源電壓轉換為該負電壓。
  4. 一種數位相機,包括:一感光元件; 第一電源輸入端,連接第一正電壓;第二電源輸入端;一LED陣列,連接在該第一與第二電源輸入端之間;一電流源,與該LED陣列串聯;以及一電源供應器,將一電源電壓轉換為第二正電壓與一負電壓供應給該感光元件,該負電壓也供應給該第二電源輸入端;其中,該第一正電壓、該第二正電壓及該負電壓皆以接地電位為電壓基準,該第一及第二正電壓是大於該接地電位的電壓,該負電壓是小於該接地電位的電壓。
  5. 如請求項4的數位相機,其中該電源供應器包括:一升壓電路將該電源電壓轉換為該第二正電壓;以及一反相降壓電路將該電源電壓轉換為該負電壓。
  6. 如請求項4之數位相機,其中該感光元件包括一CCD元件。
