Abstract

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing float glass, including a step of moving a glass band formed in the float bath and taken by a clamp portion from the float bath to a slow cooling furnace capable of slowly cooling the glass band to below strain point temperature of glass. In the method for manufacturing float glass, spray nozzles disposed at an upper stream of the slow cooling furnace supplies sulfurous acid gas to a lower surface of the glass band in the slow cooling furnace during moving process. Further, an exhaust chamber is disposed at the lower stream region, which corresponds to the position of disposing the foregoing spray nozzles, to suck and pump the environment of the foregoing slow cooling furnace. Accordingly, on the one hand air stream of sulfurous acid gas is formed at the surrounding of the glass band along the direction of moving the glass band, on the other hand the air stream is introduced to the exhaust chamber to exhaust residual sulfurous acid gas to the outside.
