Abstract
A speed responsive air damper (10) has a cylinder housing (11)in which a gas is sealed, a first piston (13) slidably fitted in the cylinder housing and having an orifice (12) through which the gas passes, a second piston (15) disposed so that it can approach and separate from the first piston by an effect of an elastic member (14), and a piston rod (16) having one end fixed to the second piston and the other end extended to the outside of the cylinder housing. The position of the first piston relative to the second piston is changed when the piston rod is rapidly displaced. When the first and second pistons approach each other, either of the pistons expands in diameter and its sliding resistance against the cylinder housing increases. Consequently, even when a load on the air damper rapidly changes, sufficient reaction force occurs and bottoming of a piston part and tilting of the piston rod are prevented.
