Abstract

Disclosed is a dispersing agent which contains a carboxyl group-containing unit (G) represented by the general formula (1) below in the main chain of a vinyl polymer on an average from 0.3 to 3.0 units per one vinyl polymer molecule. Also disclosed are a method for producing such a dispersing agent and a pigment composition containing such a dispersing agent. By using a small amount of this dispersing agent, there can be obtained a dispersion having excellent dispersibility, fluidity and storage stability. (1) [In the formula, Y1 represents a group represented by the following formula (2): (2) (wherein two or three of A1-A3 represent -C(=O)OH and k represents 1 or 2) or a group represented by the following formula (3): (3) (wherein two or three of A5-A7 represent -C(=O)OH).]
