Abstract
It is an object of the present invention to provide a thermoplastic resin having high light transmittance, a high refractive index, satisfactory formability, and capable of being molded by general molding, the thermoplastic resin being useful for a reduction in the weight of a lens. An imide resin of the present invention is an imide resin having a specific structure. Specifically, the imide resin contains a glutarimide unit and either an acrylic ester unit or a methacrylic ester unit. The imide resin has high light transmittance and a refractive index of 1.53 or more. Furthermore, the imide resin is a thermoplastic resin capable of being molded by general molding and can be suitably used as a material for a lens.
