Abstract

The invention provides a main circuit configuration that integrates buck-boost converter and E-type resonant inverter and uses the same switch to reduce the element number of control circuits and switches. It uses pulse width modulation to control the unique active switch at fixed switching frequency and duty cycle. When the buck-boost converter is designed to operate in discontinuous current mode, the electronic ballast can achieve high power factor, the active switch can operate at the zero-current switch status for reducing the switch loss to achieve the advantage of high efficiency and low cost.
