Abstract

An HBV pre-core protein having particle-forming ability and means for assaying the same are provided. A novel HBV pre-core protein that forms virus (-like) particles of HBV was identified. The present invention provides the novel HBV pre-core protein. In addition, core-like particles and virus-like particles formed by the HBV pre-core protein are provided. The virus-like particles can be used for vaccines and therapeutic agents, in addition, the present invention provides an assay method for the HBV pre-core protein and an assay method for anti-HBV pre-core protein.
