Description

Methods are known for increasing the adhesion of a binder to fiberglass or fiberglass by applying an intermediate component to them that is reactive to both glass and resin.

Silicon and chromium derivatives are used as such intermediate components.

The proposed method differs from the known ones in that an increase in the adhesion of the binder to the glass fiber and glass fabric is achieved due to the radiation grafting of organic polymers to it, which act as an intermediate component between the glass fiber and the organic resin.

60.Cobalt-60 is used as a y-radiation source.

By appropriate selection of the grafted intermediate component and the binder, good combination of the grafted polymer and the binder can be achieved and the adhesion of the binder to the glass filler can be increased.

The degree of grafting of the polymer to the surface of the glass fabric depends on the intensity and integral dose of irradiation. The lower the intensity of the 7-radiation with the same integral dose, the greater the degree of grafting of the polymer.

Example. TI-16/3 glass fabric without sizing impregnated with styrene, taken as an intermediate component, is irradiated with cobalt-60. Radiation intensity - 0.59-10 roentgenchas — Integral dose — 15.10 rad. The irradiation temperature is room temperature. The degree of grafting of polystyrene to glass fabric is equal to 1% by weight of glass fabric.
