Abstract

Production of marketable-grade phthalic anhydride such that the column is operated at a specified reflux ratio. Production of marketable-grade phthalic anhydride by distillation of crude anhydride in a reduced pressure column, with removal of the low boilers at or near the top and of the desired product at a side point, is such that the column is operated at a reflux ratio x of 1 : 1.7-3.
