Abstract

The second chain in the transfer unit between adjacent conveyor runs has at least one section forming a second active load support surface (3a) and at least one further section forming a second passive load support surface (2a), both of which lie in a plane (4, 6) on either side of the plane (5) of the load support surface in the first chains. The drive mechanism for the conveyor rotates the second chain between an active and passive position. The conveyor includes a first transport path defined by two or more cooperating, at least partially parallel and preferably endless chains, belts or the like, with a space in between containing a transfer unit which is used to transfer objects between adjacent conveyor runs and which is surrounded by the conveyor. The transfer unit comprises at least one second chain, belt or the like extending at an angle greater than 0 (90) deg. relative to the first transport path. A goods handling unit is also provided, extending across the width of the conveyor.
