Abstract

A vent (13) is incorporated into the bowl (8) to maintain a passage between the waste pipe (7) and the room in which the toilet is situated, through which air can flow. A device (9) coupled to the waste pipe generates a vacuum in the pipe, which sucks in air from around the bowl and leads it through the vent and away down the pipe.
