Abstract

A screw press for thickening of paper pulp comprises a feed screw (3), a hollow substantially cylindrical body (16) which is coaxial with the feed screw and which is arranged after the feed screw as seen in the feed direction of the feed screw, and a screen member (18) arranged on the hollow body for screening liquid from the pulp into the body. The screen member (18) is surrounded by a pulp squeezing means (24), a passage (25), through which the pulp is moved during operation, being formed between the body and the squeezing means. The squeezing means (24) is adapted to successively reduce the cross section area of the passage (25) along the passage, whereby the pulp is squeezed between the squeezing means and the screen member when the pulp passes through the passage, so that liquid is drained from the pulp to the interior of the body through the screen member (18). According to the invention, the squeezing means is adjustable for changing the total reduction of the cross section area of the passage.
