Abstract

A multi-cylinder papermaking dryer has first (1) and second (2) tiers of cylinders around which a web (W) travels supported on first and second dryer wires (k1,k2) with transfers between the wires and cylinders. A section (a-c) of the wire path between cylinders (1,2) and the first wire guide roll (h1) has a nozzle (s2) on the web free side of the wire. The nozzle blows air in the travelling direction into a gap between the wire and wire guide roll (h1) to produce a plenum zone (n+) facilitating release of the web (W) for transfer to the next wire.
