Abstract

A water purification composition is disclosed, which comprises an aqueous solution of (A) an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, (B) an alkali metal or ammonium sulphide or sodium, potassium or calcium polysulphides, (C) an alkali metal disulphite, (D) an alkali metal dithionite, and (E) an alkali or alkaline earth metal thiosulphate or ammonium thiosulphate. The composition is used for the treatment of polluted water containing heavy metal ions, e.g. polluted scrubber water from the purification according to the wet method of flue gases from refuse incineration.
