Abstract

Apparatus for cleaning the interior of a tank, e.g. an oil storage tank on a oil tanker, comprises a plurality of nozzles (2) which are disposed within the tank and discharge a cleaning liquid against the interior of the tank. The nozzles (2) are mounted for traversing movement by rotating about a vertical axis (4) and elevating movement by rotating about a horizontal axis (5) and are connected to respective drive means (3) for effecting the movement of the nozzles. Each nozzle (2) is associated with a detecting unit which produces a signal indicative of the elevational position of the nozzle. This signal is used to control the nozzle to move between predetermined upper and lower positions. <IMAGE>
