Abstract

In a process for treating molten nonferrous metals and/or their slags by reaction gas top blowing, especially in the case of the reduction of the melt by means of a high-velocity jet, part of the reductant has to be burned in order to achieve the required reaction temperature and to cover heat losses of the reactor. As a result, the driving concentration gradient is disadvantageously reduced. The invention achieves a considerable improvement in that the reaction gas used is a plasma gas. A reactor for carrying out the process has a plasma burner. <IMAGE>
