Abstract

In a process for defibrating waste paper, the paper shreds and fibre bundles are disintegrated in the inlet channel of a centrifugal pump upstream of the rotor by being subjected to mechanical forces and/or strong turbulence by means of a defibration rotor arranged in the inlet channel, and the stock suspension thus disintegrated is caused to enter into the rotor. The device provided for carrying out the process comprises a defibration rotor which is fitted with projections and is arranged in the inlet channel, fitted with projections, of the centrifugal pump, the channel preferably widening towards the rotor. The space between the inlet channel and the rotor and hence the strength of the turbulence can be adjusted by altering the position of the rotor in the inlet channel. <IMAGE>
