Abstract

The present invention relates to the thermochemical scarfing of metal workpieces. The present invention seeks to provide a method for scarfing the surface of a metal workpiece that provides acceptably short preheat times for scarfing relative cold workpieces without being subject to flashback and without requiring adjuvant material. In accordance with the present invention post-mixed scarfing pre- heating flame is produced by discharging fuel and oxygen from separate ports to impinge forming acute included angle. The flame is stabilized with a low-intensity stream of oxygen, directed in same general direction as the flame, close to but not passing through the point of impingement. <IMAGE>
