Abstract
An electric power cable or transmission cable e.g. telephone cable, includes conductive metal wires covered in insulation 1 and a protective layer 2 constituted by a tape applied longitudinally, the overlapping edges 3 and 4 of the tape being bonded by a strip of adhesive compound 5 so as to constitute a sealed tube. The adhesive compound melts and sets suddenly and cools very rapidly. The tape may be polyester, polypropylene, paper or aluminium. The cable also has a screen 6 of aluminium coated with polyethylene and an extruded sheath 9 of polyethylene. <IMAGE>
