Abstract

In the case of a transformer-supplied valve converter, a series circuit having a capacitor (4) and an inductor (5) which can be bridged is connected across the secondary winding (3) in order to use the method. The main valves (12, 13, 14, 15) are activated in each half-cycle of the supply voltage by phase-controlled control pulses, the control voltages being applied alternately to the valves at a time interval which corresponds to one half-cycle of the charging current of the capacitor (4). In the second half of the half-cycle of the supply voltage, the control pulses are also applied to the damping valves (20, 21) alternately, at a time interval corresponding to the half-cycle of the capacitor charging current. The method can be used for current transformers in the electrical industry, for supplying various DC and AC loads, especially for railways. The method allows a power factor of more than 0.95 to be achieved, the inductive voltage losses to be reduced and the interference effect of the railway power supply to be reduced. <IMAGE>
