1497854 Transformer tap-changing arrangemerits MASCHINENFABRIK REINHAUSEN Gebr SCHEUBECK KG 6 May 1976 [9 May 1975] 18593/76 Heading HIT A transformer tap-changing arrangement comprises fixed contacts 5, 6, 7, and movable contacts 8, 9, further contacts 12, 13 connected to the contacts 8, 9 and a make-before-break contact co-operating with the contacts 12, 13 and connected to an output connector 15. A resistor 16 shunts the contacts 8, 9. The whole sub-system 8, 9, 16, 13, 14 is pivoted about a point 17. In operation to move from contact 6 to contact 7 the contact 14 is first moved on to contact 13 as shown. Contact 9 then leaves contact 6 and moves to contact 7 (Fig. 2, not shown). At this stage a circulating current due to the inter-tap vo tage between 6 and 7 flows through the resistor 16. Finally contact 8 transfers to contact 7 (Fig. 3, not shown). A common actuating mechanism including resilient storage means operates the sub-system 8, 9, 16, 12, 13, 14. It will be noted that when contact 9 leaves contact 6 a greater current is boken than when contact 8 does, and hence contact 9 suffers greater erosion. However on moving in the opposite direction the reverse order is followed, and contact 8 suffers greater erosion, Hence over a period the erosion water is equalized. The arrangement is applicable to a device in which a pair of contacts say 6 and 7 from a diverter switch associated with a separate selector contacting the tap contacts of a winding.
