Abstract

A hot forming tool for press hardening, wherein the tool comprises a main body and, partly or fully of a laser metal deposited surface layer, the main body as well as the surface layer consist of a tool steel alloy having the following composition in weight %:C 0.27 - 0.40Si 0.10 - 0.35Mn 0.2 - 0.8Cr 4.0 - 6.0Mo 2.0 - 3.0V 0.4 - 0.6A1 0.001 - 0.06N 0.003 - 0.12optionally one or more of Ni, Cu, Co, W and Nb in an amount of up to 1 % each, and optionally one or more of Zr, Ta, Ti and B in an amount of up to 0.1 % each, balance Fe apart from impurities.

Claims (8)

  1. l. A hot forrning tool for press hardening, Wherein the tool comprises a main body and, partly or fully of a laser metal deposited surface layer, the main body as Well as the surface layer consist of a tool steel alloy having the following composition in Weight %: C 0.27 - 0.40 Si 0.10 - 0.35 Mn 0.2 - 0.Cr 4.0 - 6.0 Mo 2.0 - 3.V 0.4 - 0.Al 0.00l - 0.06 N 0.003 - 0.optionally one or more of Ni, Cu, Co, W and Nb in an amount of up to l % each, and optionally one or more of Zr, Ta, Ti and B in an amount of up to 0.l % each, balance Fe apart from impurities, Wherein the main body has a hardness of 44 - 54 HRC and Wherein the outermost surface layer has a hardness of 53-59 HRC.
  2. 2. A hot forrning tool for press hardening as defined in claim l, Wherein the main body has a hardness of 5l - 53 HRC.
  3. 3. A hot forrning tool for press hardening as defined in claim l or 2, Wherein the outermost surface layer has a thickness of 0.3 - 29 mm.
  4. 4. A hot forrning tool for press hardening as defined in any of the preceding claims, Wherein the outermost surface layer has a thickness of l - 3 mm.
  5. 5. A method of producing a hot forming tool for press hardening as defined in c1aim 1, comprising the steps of: providing a main body to be provided with a surface 1ayer, providing a pre-a11oyed powder having a composition as defined in c1aim 1 and having a grain size of 20 - 150 um, app1ying the pre-a11oyed powder to the surface of the main body by 1aser metadeposition to a pre-determined 1ayer thickness, tempering the thus obtained hot forming too1 twice at a temperature of 500 - 650°C for at 1east 1h in order to reduce or e1iminate any retained austenite, and machining the tempered surface to a fina1 thickness thereby obtaining a hot forrning too1 having a hardness of 53-59 HRC in the outermost surface 1ayer. . A method of producing a hot forming too1 for press hardening as defined in c1aim 5, wherein the method further comprising pre-heating the main body to a temperature of 300 °C to 500 °C before the 1aser meta1 deposition. . A method of producing a hot forming too1 for press hardening as defined in c1aim 5 or 6, wherein the pre-a11oyed powder fu1fi11s at 1east one of the fo11owing requirements : D10S50 um D50 70 :15 um D90§ 130 u A method of producing a hot forming too1 for press hardening as defined in any of c1aims 5 to 7, wherein the as-deposited surface 1ayer has a thickness of 1-mm and wherein the thickness of the machined surface 1ayer is 0.3 - 29 mm.
