Abstract
1,117,825. Refrigerating. STAL REFRIGERATION A.B. 17 Nov., 1966 [10 Jan., 1966], No. 51551/66. Heading F4H. A refrigeration system comprises low and high pressure compressors 1 and 2 respectively, an inter-stage cooler 14 into which compressor 1 discharges and which contains a cold liquidbath formed by the expansion of oil-rich liquid refrigerant drawn from a separator 6 via line 19 and expansion valve 20. Vapour from cooler 14 is supplied to compressor 2 via line 16 and oil-rich liquid from the cooler passing through a line 21 is evaporated in a heat exchanger 11, the resulting vapour and entrained oil being supplied to line 16. Separator 6 comprises a liquid bath which is supplied from the condenser 3 via valve 8 and into which compressor 2 discharges. Oil-free liquid refrigerant from the condenser is supplied via accumulator 9, heat exchanger 11 and expansion valve 12 into a chamber 13 from which liquid is supplied to the evaporator 4 via expansion valve' 5, and vapour is supplied to line 16. Chamber 13 and cooler 14 are formed in a single sub-divided vessel. Valves 8, 12 and 20 are liquid-level controlled. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) accumulator 9 is omitted and valve 12 is controlled in accordance with the liquid level in the condenser.
