Abstract

A shoe press has a shoe support mounted downstream of a press shoe. The shoe support has a first support fixedly connected to a stand and having a support surface facing the press shoe; and a second support in the shape of a rolling body, arranged in an interspace between the support surface of the first support and an opposite support surface of the press shoe. A shoe press includes first and second presses (1, 2) cooperating with each other to form an extended press nip. The first press comprises (a) an endless, movable impermeable belt (8); (b) a press shoe (3) defining the press nip and with which the belt is in sliding contact; (c) a power transmission mechanism (5) for supporting the press shoe and for moving the press shoe relative to the press nip and to the second press; (d) an inner axial stand (4) for supporting the power transmission mechanism; and (e) a shoe support mounted downstream of the press shoe to carry the forces acting on the press shoe during operation. The shoe support comprises (i) a first support (15) fixedly connected to the stand and having a support surface (17) facing the press shoe; and (ii) a second support (16) in the shape of at least one rolling body (20), arranged in an interspace (19) between the support surface of the first support and an opposite support surface (18) of the press shoe to be in contact with the two support surfaces during operation. When the press shoe is moved relative to the second press, the rolling body is arranged to roll along the two support surfaces while rotating about an axis of rotation that moves relative to and in the same direction as the press shoe.
