Abstract
FIELD: production of dinitrotoluene. SUBSTANCE: method involves nitration of toluene in liquid phase. The process is carried out with the help of anhydrous nitric acid at 20-30 C within less than 15 min, molar ratio of total amount of nitric acid and water to toluene being 10:1-15:1. Said reaction takes place in the absence of sulfuric acid and any aprotic bipolar solvent, it is followed by distillation in vacuum. EFFECT: improves efficiency of the method.
