Turning now to the features of the device 10 in more detail, it should be noted that the support plate 12 can engage any part of the body below the patient's lumbar vertebrae to apply the appropriate stretch to the lumbar region of the patient's back. If desired, additional mechanical means for attaching the body to the base plate, such as leg straps (not shown) or the like, may be provided to more securely attach the patient's body to the device. In most cases, however, such additional equipment was not necessary.
