U postojećim kanalizacionim instalacijama postoje dve izvedbe slivnika: sa vertikalnim odvodom i sa hoiizontalnim odvodom otpadne vode, što iziskuje potrebu izrade dve različite konstrukcije predmetnih uložaka koje se mogu nabaviti u maloprodaji. Kod vertikalnih slivnika predviđen je uložak koji se sastoji od plastičnog držača oblika kružnog odsečka, elastične gumene membrane, gumene podloške i plastičnog prstena. For a drain with a horizontal drain, the construction of the insert is basically the same as for a vertical drain, with the fact that the rubber washer and the plastic support are made with half-holes on the upper half, so that the lower part replaces the partition located in the drain and it is removed by cutting in order to install the insert in question.

Uložak za jednosmerni protok tečnosti i vazduha ugrađen u odvodnu cev slivnika u kupatilu ili nekoj dragoj prostoriji u zđradi omogućava normalno izlivanje upotrebljene vođe u kanalizaciju, a sprečava povratak zagađenog vazduha i razne gamadi u kupatilo i druge prostorije gde postoje shvnici. Potreba za ugradnjom uloška u slivnike postoji i ako u njima funkcioniše sistem „sifona" koji omogućavaju ovu funkciju pomoću stvaranja vodene zapreke. Sistem „sifona" ne funkcioniše uvek efikasno sa jedne strane zbog loše izrade, a sa druge strane zbog nestajanja vode u „sifonu" ili zbog rede upotrebe ( slučaj vikendica ) ili u letnjim mesecima kada usled visokih temperatura voda ispari.
