In the method, copper concentrate (1), flux (2) and reaction gas (3) are supplied together to a reaction shaft (5) of a suspension smelting furnace (4), for example to a reaction shaft (5) of a flash smelting furnace, and separate phases are formed in the suspension smelting furnace (4), i.e. blister copper (13) and slag (14). In the method, slag (14) from the suspension smelting furnace is supplied to an electric furnace (16) and slag (14) from the suspension smelting furnace is subjected to the action of a reducing agent in the electric furnace (16) so that separate phases are formed in the electric furnace (16), i.e. lower metal phase (17) and waste slag (18); the obtained metal (17) is removed from the electric furnace (16), the metal (17) from the electric furnace is granulated and granulated metal (22) is obtained from the electric furnace, and the granulated metal (22) from the electric furnace is supplied to the reaction shaft (5) of the suspension smelting furnace (4).
