Description

Ponizej podane doswiadczenia wyja¬ sniaja wplyw gestosci pradu na sprawnosc elektrolityczna: Elektrolit zawieral w 1 1 13,8 g Na2COs, 50 g dwuweglanu sodu, 20 g nad¬ boranu i potrzebna ilosc boraksu. PLWith the further development of the procedure for the production of perborates, the path of electrolysis, the search raised the question whether the current density does not really affect the electrolytic efficiency within wide limits; it has been noticed that such an influence exists, namely that the electrolytic efficiency unexpectedly increases with increasing current density. Therefore, in the production of perborates, a high anode and cathode current density was used. The following experiments explain the effect of the current density on electrolytic efficiency: The electrolyte contained in 11.8 g of Na2COs, 50 g of sodium bicarbonate, 20 g of perborate and the required amount of borax. The cathode consisted of a bar of iron immersed 61 cm into the electrolyte. The anode was a 50 cm2 platinum wire mesh for the first experiment, 25 cm2 for the second, and 12 Va cm2 for the third experiment. The current strength for all three experiments was 5 amps. so that the current density at the anode was achieved in the first experiment 1000 amps, in the second - 2000 amps, and in the third - 4000 amps. per 1 m2. The cathodic current density was still uniform at around 820 amps. The experiments lasted 7 hours. each. The results are shown in the following table: Oxygen Efficiency achieved. gr. electrolyte. # Experience I.. 1.43 g II. • 2.74 "III. • 3.45 “13.55% 25.4% 33.5% The figures do not naturally represent the limit values, they only indicate, under the same conditions, the obtained comparative data. If both the anodic and cathode current densities increase, then under the same conditions, or with the same constant anodic density only the cathode, one also obtains an increase in the electrolytic efficiency, although the effect of the cathodic current density on the efficiency is not so significant. With the same constant anode current density, the electrolytic efficiency under the above-mentioned conditions increases from 14.4 to 20.5%) if the cathodic current density is increased from 1000 amps. for 2000 amp. per 1 m2. There is only a slight change on further lifting. PL
