QUE COMPRENDE: a) INTRODUCIR LA OLEORESINA DE UNA PLANTA CONTENIENDO CAROTENOIDES EN UN DISOLVENTE ORGANICO INMISCIBLE EN AGUA, UN ALCOHOL Y UNA BASE BAJO TEMPERATURA DE REFLUJO DEL DISOLVENTE ORGANICO PARA FORMAR UNA MEZCLA DE REACCION DE LA SAPONIFICACION; b) MANTENER DICHA MEZCLA DURANTE UN PERIODO SUFICIENTE COMO PARA COMPLETAR DICHA REACCION, PRODUCIENDO ASI UN PRODUCTO SAPONIFICADO; c) PERMITIR QUE EL PRODUCTO SAPONIFICADO RESULTANTE SE SEPARE EN DOS FASES, UNA ORGANICA Y UNA ACUOSA; d) SEPARAR DICHAS FASES Y EXTRAER EL EXTRACTOR DE LA FASE ACUOSA; Y, e) DESTILAR LA FASE ORGANICA PARA OBTENER LOS CRISTALES CAROTENOIDES. EL DISOLVENTE ORGANICO ES UN HIDROCARBURO TAL COMO PENTANO, HEXANO, HEPTANO o TOLUENO; ALCOHOL TAL COMO METANOL, ETANOL, PROPANOL, ISOPROPANOL, TER-BUTANOL o BUTANOL; BASE TAL COMO HIDROXIDO ALCALINO O CARBONATO ALCALINO; UN ETER O UN DISOLVENTE CLORINADO.
