Abstract
Iron ore continuously supplied to a multi-tier furnace is placed onto the top tier, from which it is transferred in succession to the lower tiers. A reduction agent is placed onto the top and/or lower tiers where it reacts with the ore to form directly reduced iron. Directly reduced iron together with residues of the reduction agent are extracted from the furnace in the zone of the bottom tier.
