Abstract

An adjustable annular gap nozzle (10) for washing a gas stream comprises an outer tube channel (12) with a nozzle section (20) converging in the flow direction and, adjoining downstream, a nozzle section (22) diverging in the flow direction. A central control member (14) is axially displaceably arranged in the diverging nozzle section (22) so that it delimits an adjustable annular gap (24) in this, acting as a washing path. The latter is adjusted so that the gas stream therein has a speed which is approximately constant, or slightly increasing in the flow direction. The central control member (14) has an extension (50) downstream and the tube channel (12) has a projection (52) downstream of the diverging nozzle section (22) which both cooperate to form an annular gap (54) acting as a compression path in which the gas stream is decelerated before it leaves the annular gap nozzle (10, 110, 210).<IMAGE>
