Abstract
An apparatus (10; 30; 40; 110; 130) for detecting a foreign object or an additive, in particular polymer objects, other undesired objects and chemical additives, in food, the apparatus comprises: an illumination system (12, 13; 43, 44; 112, 113) configured to emit light for illuminating a food product, in particular a slice(11; 111), a camera system (14-17; 31, 32; 41, 42; 114-117; 131, 132) configured to capture images of the food product (11; 111), in particular at an angle of 0° or close to 0°, in response to illuminating the food product (11; 111) by the light emitted by the illumination system (12, 13; 43, 44; 112, 113), a first linear polarizer (200-203; 220, 221) between the illumination system (12, 13; 43, 44; 112, 113) and the food product (11; 111) and a second linear polarizer (210, 211; 230, 231) orthogonal to the first polarizer (200-203; 220, 221) between the food product (11; 111) and the camera system (14-17; 31, 32; 41, 42; 114-117; 131, 132), and an evaluation unit (18) configured to detect an object or additive in the food product (11; 111), wherein the evaluation unit (18) is configured to analyze at least two images of the food product (11; 111) captured by the camera system (14-17; 31, 32; 41, 42; 114-117; 131, 132) to detect the object or additive, wherein the camera system is configured to capture a first image of the at least two images only in a first wavelength range and a second image of the at least two images only in a second wavelength range, and wherein the light absorption of the object or additive is higher in the first wavelength range than in the second wavelength range.
