Abstract

Claims (20)

  1. 적용된 전압에 따라 다른 컬러를 표시하며, 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)을 가지는 액정표시패널(3)과; 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)에서 표시컬러를 각각 지정하기 위한 지정수단(301 내지 304); 및 상기 지정수단(301 내지 304)에 의해 지정된 표시컬러에 따라 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)에 각각 구동신호를 발생시키고, 상기 액정표시패널(3)에 상기 구동신호를 적용시키고, 그것에 의해 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)상에 상기 지정수단(301 내지 304)에 의해 지정된 컬러를 표시하기 위한 구동수단(400)을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.

  5. 제4항에 있어서, 상기 지정수단은 상기 문자표시영역(3b)에 관해서는 문자가 표시되도록 표시컬러 및 표시위치를 상기 구동수단(400)에 지정하고, 상기 화상 표시영역(3c)에 관해서는 화상의 표시컬러를 지정하기 위한 수단(301,303,304)을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 지정수단(301 내지 304)은 각각의 상기 복수의 문자에 대해서는 상기 문자, 표시컬러 및 표시위치를 지정하고, 상기 화상을 구성하는 각 화소에 대해서는 표시컬러를 지정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  7. 제4항에 있어서, 상기 지정수단(301 내지 304)은; 상기 액정표시패널(3)의 상기 제1표시영역(3b)이 상기 문자를 표시하는 위치와 관련하여 문자코드를 지정하기 위한 문자코드 저장수단(301)과; 상기 문자코드 저장수단(301)에 저장된 상기 문자코드와 관련하여 문자의 표시컬러 데이타를 저장하기 위한 문자컬러 데이타 저장수단(304); 및 상기 제2표시영역(3c)상에 표시되도록 화상컬러데이타를 저장하기 위한 화상컬러데이타 저장수단(302)을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  8. 제7항에 있어서, 상기 화상컬러데이타 저장수단(302)은 메모리영역에 인접할 때 또는 한 메모리영역의 비트에 인접할 때 비교적 같은 위치에서 비트로 상기 화상컬러데이타의 개개의 비트를 저장하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  9. 제7항에 있어서, 상기 문자 컬러데이타 저장수단(304) 및 상기 화상컬러데이타 저장수단(302)중에서 적어도 하나는 어떤 2p(p는 양의 정수이다)컬러를 지정하기 위한 P-비트(bit)표시컬러데이타를 저장하며; 및 상기 구동수단(400)은 상기 p-비트 표시컬러 데이타를 q가 p보다 큰 양의 정수인 q-비트 표시컬러데이타로 변환시키기 위한 수단 및 변환 후에 상기 q-비트 표시데이타에 대응하는 표시컬러로 상기 표시데이타를 표시하도록 상기 액정표시패널(3)을 구동시키기 위한 수단을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  10. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 액정표시패널(3)은 적용된 전압을 제어함으로써 액정의 제동을 변화시켜 표시컬러를 바꾸는 반사형의 액정표시장치로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  11. 적용된 전압에 따라 다른 컬러를 표시하기 위한 액정표시장치를 구동시키는 방법에 있어서, 상기 액정표시패널(3)은 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)을 가지며, 상기 방법은; 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)에 표시컬러를 지정하는 단계; 및 표시컬러 지정에 따라 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)에 각각 구동신호를 발생시켜, 상기 액정표시패널(3)에 상기 구동신호를 적용시켜, 그것에 의해 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)상에 지정컬러를 표시하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  12. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 액정표시패널(3)의 상기의 적어도 2개의 표시영역(3b,3c)은 복수의 화소를 포함하는 화상을 표시하기 위한 제1표시영역(3b) 및 적어도 하나의 화소를 포함하는 화상을 표시하기 위한 제2표시영역(3c)을 포함하며; 상기 지정단계는 제1표시영역(3c)에 대해서는 표시화상, 표시컬러 및 표시 위치를 지정하며 제2표시영역(3c)에 대해서는 표시컬러를 지정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  13. 제12항에 있어서, 상기 제1표시여역(3b)은 도트 매트릭스(dot matrix)표시영역을 가지며, 상기 제2표시영역(3c)은 픽토그래프(pictograph)표시부를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  14. 제12항에 있어서, 상기 제1표시영역(3b)은 복수의 화소를 포함하는 복수의 문자를 각각 표시하기 위한 문자표시영역을 가지며; 상기 제2표시영역(3c)은 적어도 하나의 화소를 포함하는 화상을 표시하기 위한 화상 표시영역을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  15. 제14항에 있어서, 상기 지정단계는, 상기 문자표시영역(3b)에 관해서는 문자가 표시되도록 표시컬러 및 표시위치를 지정하고, 상기 화상표시영역(3c)에 관해서는 화상컬러표시를 지정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  16. 제15항에 있어서, 상기 지정단계는 상기 복수의 문자 각각에 대해서는 상기 문자, 표시컬러 및 표시위치를 지정하고, 상기 화상을 구성하는 각 화소를 위한 상기 표시컬러를 지정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  17. 제14항에 있어서, 상기 지정단계는 상기 액정표시패널(3)이 상기 문자를 표시하는 위치와 관련하여 문자코드 저장수단(301)에 문자코드를 저장하고, 상기 문자코드 저장수단(301)에 저장된 상기 문자코드와 관련하여 문자컬러데이타 저장수단(304)에 문자의 표시컬러데이타를 저장하고, 화상컬러데이타 저장수단(302)에서 상기 제2표시영역상에 표시되도록 화상컬러를 저장하는 단계를 포함하며, 상기 구동단계는 상기 문자코드 저장수단(301), 상기 문자컬러데이타 저장수단 및 상기 화상컬러데이타 저장수단(302)에 저장된 데이타를 근거로 상기 액정표시패널(3)을 구동시키는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  18. 제17항에 있어서, 상기 화상컬러데이타의 개개의 비트는 메모리영역에 인접할 때 또는 한 메모리영역에 있는 비트에 인접할 때 각각 같은 위치에서 비트로 저장되는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
  19. 제17항에 있어서, 상기 지정단계는 상기 문자 컬러데이타 저장수단 및 상기 화상컬러데이타 저장수단중의 적어도 하나에 어떤 2p컬러를 지정하기 위한 P-비트 컬러데이타를 저장하며; 상기 구동단계는 상기 p-비트 표시컬러 데이타를 q-비트 표시컬러데이타(q>p)로 변환시키고 변환 후에 상기 q-비트 표시컬러데이타에 대응하는 표시컬러로 상기 표시데이타를 표시하는 것과 같은 방법으로 상기 액정표시패널을 구동시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
  20. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 액정표시패널(3)은 적용된 전압을 제어함으로써 액정의 제공을 변환시켜 표시컬러를 바꾸는 반사형의 액정표시장치로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 방법.
