돼지는 면역력이 매우 약한 동물로 그룹 내의 개체 중 한 마리라도 질병에 감염되면 바닥, 벽, 사료, 깔짚, 사료통, 급수통 등을 통해 감염될 수 있다. 특히 모돈은 자돈에게 포유를 하기 때문에 모돈이 질병에 감염되면 유두와 젖을 통해 직접적으로 감염될 수 있으며, 면역력이 낮은 자돈에게 감염된 젖의 수유는 집단 폐사로 이어질 수 있어 농가에게 경제적으로 피해를 주게 된다. 이를 해결하기 위해 온도측정, 맥박측정, 무게측정과 같이 직접 가축의 몸을 확인하는 방법과, 급이량 측정과 같은 모니터링을 통해 가축의 상태를 확인하였다. 하지만 위의 방법은 농장주가 수시로 점검해야 하는 문제점이 있다.Pigs are very vulnerable.
