Description

도 5는 관리 시스템에 의해 실행되는 예시적인 전력 관리 프로세스를 도시한다.
Claims (15)
- 컴퓨터에 의해 실행되는 방법에 있어서,
상기 방법은
복수의 서버 컴퓨터 및/또는 애플리케이션 및/또는 가상 머신(VM)으로부터 전력 측정치를 수신하는 단계 - 상기 전력 측정치는 상기 서버 컴퓨터들 또는 상기 개별 애플리케이션 또는 상기 애플리케이션을 호스팅하는 상기 VM들의 전력 소비의 측정치를 포함하고, 상기 서버 컴퓨터들은 상기 서버 컴퓨터 외부에 있는 해당 전력 인프라 유닛들로부터 전력을 수신함 -,
상기 전력 측정치를 평가하여 상기 전력 인프라 유닛들 중 하나에서 전력 사용 감소를 필요로 하는지 여부를 결정하는 단계, 및
전력 감소 필요가 있다는 결정에 대한 응답으로, 상기 전력 인프라 유닛으로부터 전력을 수신하는 하나 이상의 서버 컴퓨터에 하나 이상의 메시지를 전송하는 단계 - 상기 메시지는 상기 하나 이상의 서버 컴퓨터에서 컴퓨테이션의 감소를 일어나게 함 -를 포함하는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 전력 인프라 유닛으로부터 전력을 수신하는 복수의 서버 컴퓨터에 관해 수신된 전력 측정치로부터 전체 전력을 계산 및 예측하고, 상기 전체 전력에 기반하여, 상기 복수의 서버 컴퓨터에 대한 컴퓨팅 부하가 감소되어야 할지 여부를 결정함으로써, 전력 감소를 필요로 하는 상기 전력 인프라 유닛이 식별되는 방법.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,
전력 소비 정책을 사용하여 상기 결정이 실행되고, 상기 정책은 희망하거나 혹은 요구되는(mandatory) 전력 사용량 특성을 명시하는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
컴퓨테이션 및/또는 전력의 상기 감소는 불활성화(deactivating), 종료(terminating) 및 재생성(recreating), 이전(migrating), 자원 재분배 또는 상기 하나 이상의 서버 컴퓨터에서 실행되는 가상 머신(VM)의 작업 부하 조정에 의해 영향을 받고, 상기 불활성화는 일시적으로 중단(suspending) 또는 정지(halting)하였다가 동일한 서버나 다른 서버에서 재개하는 것을 포함하며, 상기 종료 및 재생성은 과부하가 걸린 지점에서 애플리케이션 인스턴스의 종료 및 추후에 동일한 서버 또는 다른 서버에서, 필요하다면 재생성된 애플리케이션 상태를 가지고, 새로운 인스턴스 또는 이들을 호스팅하는 VM을 인스턴스화하는 것을 포함하는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
컴퓨테이션 또는 전력의 상기 감소는 주파수 스케일링(frequency scaling)과 같은 프로세서 전력 관리 노브(knob)을 사용하여 전력 소비에 영향을 미치는 CPU의 설정을 바꿔, 상기 하나 이상의 서버 컴퓨터의 하나 이상의 CPU가 전력을 덜 소비하게 하는 것에 의해 영향을 받는 방법.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 전력 소비 유닛의 식별에 대한 추가 응답으로, 상기 과부하가 걸린 전력 인프라 유닛으로부터 전력을 수신하지 않는 하나 이상의 서버 컴퓨터에 컴퓨테이션 부하를 증가시키는 방법.
- 제 6 항에 있어서,

상기 컴퓨팅 장치들에 대한 전력 소비의 측정치를 수신하는 단계,
그로부터 상기 컴퓨팅 장치들 중 하나에 대한 상기 측정치가 상기 정책의 전력 소비 한도를 초과하거나, 또는 초과에 기여하는지 여부를 판정하는 단계, 및
상기 판정에 대한 응답으로, 상기 컴퓨팅 장치들 중 하나에서 전력 소비 감소를 일어나게 하는 단계 - 상기 컴퓨팅 장치들 중 상기 하나는 상기 프로세스를 실행하고 있는 상기 컴퓨팅 장치와 다름 -를 포함하는 방법.
- 제 8 항에 있어서,
상기 방법은
상기 결정된 컴퓨팅 장치에 전력을 공급하지 않는 전력 인프라로부터 전력을 얻는 하나 이상의 컴퓨팅 장치를 식별하고, 상기 식별된 하나 이상의 컴퓨팅 장치에 의한 전력 소비를 증가시킴으로써, 상기 판정에 추가 응답하는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
- 제 8 항에 있어서,
전력 소비 증가 또는 전력 소비의 상기 감소는 여러 자원 중에서 CPU 주파수 설정 변경, 캐시 할당 변경, 메모리 할당 변경, 메모리 대역폭 할당 변경, 애플리케이션의 처리 우선 순위 변경, 또는 애플리케이션이 컴퓨팅 부하를 증가 또는 감소시키도록 상기 애플리케이션으로의 신호 전송 중 하나 이상에 의해 영향을 받는 방법.
- 제 8 항에 있어서,
상기 측정치는 상기 컴퓨팅 장치들의 하드웨어의 일부로서 포함되는 전력 모니터에 의해 제공되거나, 또는 가상 머신에 대한 전력 소비를 추정하는 상기 컴퓨팅 장치들 중 일부를 실행하는 소프트웨어 모듈에 의해 제공되는 방법.
- 하나 이상의 컴퓨터에 의해 실행되는, 복수의 컴퓨터에서 전력 소비를 관리하는 방법에 있어서,
상기 방법은
개별 컴퓨터들의 전력 소비의 지표를 종합하여 임의의 복수의 컴퓨터들을 평가하도록, 상기 복수 개의 컴퓨터들의 전력 소비를 반복적으로 평가하는 단계 - 상기 평가는 전력을 과다 소비하고 있는 복수 개의 컴퓨터를 식별하고, 전력을 과소 소비하고 있는 복수 개의 컴퓨터를 식별함 -,
전력을 과다 소비하는 것으로 식별된 제 1 복수 개의 컴퓨터들의 일부 컴퓨터들에 컴퓨테이션 작업 부하를 감소시키도록 지시하기 위해 제 1 메시지를 전송함으로써 상기 제 1 복수 개의 컴퓨터들에 응답하는 단계, 및
전력을 과소 소비하는 것으로 식별된 제 2 복수 개의 컴퓨터들의 다른 컴퓨터들에게 제 2 메시지를 전송함으로써 전력을 과다 소비하는 것으로 식별된 상기 제 1 복수 개의 컴퓨터들에 추가 응답하는 단계 - 상기 제 2 메시지는 상기 다른 컴퓨터들에게 컴퓨테이션 작업 부하를 증가시키도록 지시함 -를 포함하는 방법.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,
상기 평가는 상기 컴퓨터들에서 실행되는 소프트웨어 애플리케이션에 의해 제공되는 전력 소비 추정치에 기반하는 방법.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,
상기 컴퓨터들에서 실행되는 전력 모니터링 프로그램(power monitor program)은 상기 컴퓨터들의 개별 전력 소비의 측정치를 제공하고, 상기 컴퓨테이션 작업 부하는 CPU 감속, 애플리케이션 정지 또는 감속, 가상 머신의 구성 변경, 자원 재분배, 또는 애플리케이션 이전에 의해 감소되는 방법.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,
컴퓨테이션 작업 부하의 상기 감소 지시는 상기 제 1 복수 개의 컴퓨터들로부터 가상 머신을 이전함으로써 실행되는 방법.
