Claims (19)
- 뷰잉 사이드를 갖는 반사형 디스플레이로서, 상기 뷰잉 사이드로부터 투명 기판 및 반사층을 연속으로 포함하는, 상기 반사형 디스플레이에 있어서,상기 기판은 복수의 깔때기형 돌출부들(funnel-shaped protrusions)을 포함하고, 각각의 돌출부는 상기 기판을 향하는 기저부 표면 영역을 가지는 기저 단부와, 상기 기판에서 떨어져 상기 반사층쪽으로 향하는 상부 표면 영역을 가지는 상단부와, 상기 기저 단부 및 상기 상단부를 접속하는 하나 이상의 측벽부들을 포함하고, 상기 기저부 표면 영역은 상기 상부 표면 영역보다 크고, 상기 측벽부들은 상기 돌출부를 통해 투과되는 광을 반사시키도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 기저부 표면 영역과 상기 상부 표면 영역의 비는 0.7ns 2 내지 1.5ns 2이고, 바람직하게는 0.9ns 2 내지 1.3ns 2이고, 가장 바람직하게는 1.0ns 2 내지 1.2ns 2이며, 여기서 ns는 상기 기판의 굴절률인, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,제 1 돌출부들의 제 1 기저부 표면 영역은 제 2 돌출부의 제 2 기저부 표면 영역과 측면을 공유하고, 상기 제 1 및 제 2 돌출부들은 이웃하는 돌출부들인, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,기저부 표면 영역은 직사각형, 삼각형, 또는 육각형의 형상을 가지는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 4 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 측벽부들은 본질적으로 평평한, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 반사층은 대략 램버튼 반사(Lambertian reflection)에 의해 광을 산란시키도록 구성되는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 6 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 반사층은, 내부에 분산된 산란 입자들을 가진 매체를 포함하는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,상기 매체의 굴절률(nf)은 1.1ns보다 작고, 상기 기저부 표면 영역과 상기 상부 표면 영역의 비는 0.5nf 2 내지 1.5nf 2이고, 바람직하게는 0.7nf 2 내지 1.3nf 2이고, 가장 바람직하게는 0.9nf 2 내지 1.1nf 2인, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 7 항 또는 제 8 항에 있어서,상기 매체는 컵형 구획부들(cup-shaped compartments)에 포함되고, 상기 깔때기형 돌출부들은 상기 상부 표면 영역들이 상기 구획부들을 오버레이하도록 상기 구획부들과 정렬되는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 7 항 또는 제 8 항에 있어서,상기 기판은 상기 구획부들에 대한 밀봉층으로 이용되는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 11 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 디스플레이는 전기영동 디스플레이(electrophoretic display)인, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,상기 디스플레이의 전기영동 입자들의 입자 움직임은 일반적으로 디스플레이 평면에 수직인, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 13 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 기판은 상기 뷰잉 사이드에서 주위 분위기보다 큰 굴절률(ns)을 가지고, 상기 반사층은 상기 광의 적어도 일부가 상기 기판에서 상기 주위 분위기로 벗어나는 각보다 큰 상기 기판의 전파각으로 반사되는 방식으로 광을 반사시키도록 구성되는, 반사형 디스플레이.
- 뷰잉 사이드를 갖는 반사형 디스플레이를 제조하는 방법으로서, 상기 디스플레이는 상기 뷰잉 사이드로부터 투명 기판 및 반사층을 연속으로 포함하는, 상기 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법에 있어서,상기 기판에 복수의 깔때기형 돌출부들을 제공하는 단계로서, 각각의 돌출부는 상기 기판을 향하는 기저부 표면 영역을 가지는 기저 단부와, 상기 기판에서 떨어져 상기 반사층쪽으로 향하는 상부 표면 영역을 가지는 상단부와, 상기 기저 단부 및 상기 상단부를 접속하는 하나 이상의 측벽부들을 포함하고, 상기 측벽부들은 상기 돌출부들을 통해 투과되는 광을 반사시키도록 구성되는, 상기 복수의 깔때기형 돌출부들 제공 단계를 포함하는, 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 깔때기형 돌출부들을 제공하는 단계는:- 투명 기판을 제공하는 단계,- 상기 기판에 그루브들을 형성하는 단계, 및- 상기 그루브들의 벽들에 반사 코팅을 제공하는 단계를 포함하는, 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법.
- 제 16 항에 있어서,상기 돌출부들 제공 단계는 상기 그루브들을 충전 재료로 충전하는 단계를 더 포함하는, 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 돌출부들 제공 단계는:- 투명 기판을 제공하는 단계; 및- 그 위에 형성된 돌출부들을 갖는 기판을 상기 투명 기판에 부착하는 단계를 더 포함하는, 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,상기 산란층은 유동체를 포함하는 컵형 구획부들을 포함하고, 상기 깔때기형 돌출부들은 상기 상부 표면 영역들이 상기 구획부들을 오버레이하도록 상기 구획부들과 정렬되는, 반사형 디스플레이 제조 방법.
