다용도로 사용하는 전자 장치{TWO PART MULTI-FUNCTION ELECTRONIC DEVICE}
본 출원의 청구 대상은 다용도 전자 장치에 관한 것이다. 보다 구체적으로, 이 출원은 터치 스크린 디스플레이 및 전문 키보드(a full text keyboard)를 가진 개별 커버를 사용하는 이분형(two part) 전자 장치의 고유한 배치를 설명한다.
이동 전화 및 유사한 통신 장치는 사용 및 기능면에서 빠르게 확장하고 있다. 이러한 장치는 곧 전화 통신 이외에, 인터넷 액세스, 개인 정보 관리, 팩스, 촬영, 메시지 통신 및 영상 회의와 같은 다양한 서비스를 통합할 것이다. 이를 달성하기 위해, 이동 장치가 적합해질 보다 복잡한 애플리케이션과 호환가능한 키패드, 기능 버튼 및 디스플레이를 제공할 필요가 있다. 이동 장치에 필요한 소형 크기를 유지하면서, 표준 QWERTY 타이핑 키 및 버튼 어레이와 같은 전문 기능 키보드를 제공하는 것은 어렵다. 이들 장치에 의해 액세스 가능할 다량의 상이한 정보를 디스플레이할 수 있는 디스플레이 스크린을 제공하는 것도 어렵다. 오늘날 시장에서 이러한 장치는 다루기 어려우며, 흔히 전기능 어레이, 즉, PDA와 이동 전화기를 획득하는 몇몇 장치를 필요로 한다.
이러한 다기능 전자 장치의 도입으로, 사용자가 소형 휴대용 장치에서 이용가능한 다수의 유형의 기능 및 애플리케이션에 액세스하게 하는 사용자 인터페이스를 설계하기가 점점 더 어려워지게 되었다. 특히 사용자가 광범위한 기능 어레이를 선택하면서 브라우징, 선택 및 작동시키는 단순하고 효율적인 수단을 제공하는 것이 어렵다. 사용자 인터페이스는 일반적으로 데이터와 명령을 입력하는 키패드 및 선택된 기능의 동작에 관련된 정보를 나타내는 디스플레이 스크린으로 이루어져 있다. 키패드 및 디스플레이는 각각 용이하게 사용하고 보기 위해 가능한 큰 것이 바람직하므로, 장치에서 공간을 차지하기 위해 계속 경쟁하고 있다. 이는 예컨대, QWERTY형 키보드와 같은 전기능 키보드를 제공하는 것이 유리한 경우에 특히 어렵다.
본 발명의 목적은 디스플레이와 키보드 양자 모두에 대한 공간 할당을 최대화하도록 커버부 상에 장착된 키보드를 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 목적은 단일 장치를 사용함으로써 다수의 서비스에 액세스할 수 있는 단순하고 저가의 전기능 이동 통신 장치를 제공하는 것이다. 본 발명의 다른 목적은 최소 치수의 실용 패키지 내에 PDA와 이동 전화기를 결합하는 것이다. 단문 키보드와 디스플레이 양자 모두의 크기를 최대화하는 단문 키보드 및 디스플레이 구성을 제공하는 것도 본 발명의 목적이다.
다기능 전자 장치는 셀룰러 전화기, PDA 및 디지털 카메라와 같은 다른 모드로서 독립 동작에 적합한 통신부를 구비하고 있다. 터치 감지 디스플레이는 통신부가 독립적으로 동작하게 하는 사용자 인터페이스를 제공한다. 통신부는 제공된 기능을 인에이블링하는 동작가능한 부품을 포함한다. 커버부는 통신부가 삽입될 수 있는 수용부(a receptacle)로 구성된다. 플립업 패널(a flip up panel)은 커버부 상에 피봇가능하게 장착되어, 통신부가 커버부 내에 존재하면 통신부에 대한 시각적 및 물리적 액세스를 제공한다.
통신부의 PDA 기능 중 단문 입력 특성을 향상시키기 위해, 개방시에 단문을 입력할 수 있도록 플립업 패널의 내면 상에 전문 키보드가 구성된다. 커버 내로 삽입되는 경우에, 통신 장치는 키보드에 동작가능하게 접속된다.
본 발명의 일 측면에 따르면, 키보드는 단단하고 지지를 받는 위치에서 커버의 인접 부분 상에 위치하는 동작가능한 위치로 커버가 대략 180°개방되게 하는 방식으로 커버 상에 피봇가능하게 장착된다.

본 발명의 형상부를 통합하는 다기능 전자 장치(10), 예컨대, 결합형 PDA/셀룰러 전화기가 도면에 도시된다. 본 발명은 도면에 도시된 실시예를 참조하여 설명될 것이지만, 본 발명이 다수의 다른 형태를 가질 수 있음을 알아야 한다. 또한, 임의의 적합한 크기, 형태 또는 유형의 소자 또는 물질이 사용될 수 있다.

Claims (10)

  1. 다용도로 사용하는 전자 장치에 있어서,
    상부면 및 하부면을 가지며, 사용자에 의해 선택가능한 다기능을 제공하도록 배치된 복수의 전자 부품을 포함하도록 적응된 통신부(a communication part)와,
    상기 통신부를 수용하기에 적합하게 구성된 수용부(a receptacle)와, 개방 위치와 덮개(a lid)가 상기 수용부 위로 연장하여 적어도 상기 수용부를 위한 부분적인 커버를 제공하는 위치 사이에서 이동가능한 상기 덮개를 가진 커버부(a cover part)와,
    상기 복수의 전자 부품과 함께 작동하여 데이터 및 영상을 디스플레이하도록 상기 통신부의 상기 상부면 위에 장착된 디스플레이 스크린과,
    상기 덮개 위에 장착되며 상기 개방 위치에서 사용하기 위해 액세스 가능 한 -상기 통신부가 상기 수용부 내에 위치할 때 상기 수용부로 상기 키보드에 상기 통신부를 접속하는 것을 의미함- 키보드를 포함하되, 상기 키보드는 상기 디스플레이와 함께 작동하여 상기 디스플레이 스크린 상에 데이터와 영상의 입력 및 디스플레이를 가능하게 하는
    다용도로 사용하는 전자 장치.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 디스플레이 스크린은 상기 통신부의 상부면과 실질적으로 동일한 공간 에 걸치도록 배치되어, 데이터 및 영상이 디스플레이될 수 있는 가능한 영역을 최대화하는
