Claims (2)
- 반사형 액정 표시 장치에 있어서:한 쌍의 기판과;상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워져 있는 액정층을 포함하되, 상기 액정층은 포지티브 유전율 이방성을 가지는 액정 재료로 형성되고, 상기 기판 근처의 상기 액정 재료의 분자들의 긴축은 상기 기판에 대해 실질적으로 평행하며, 상기 액정 재료는 그 안에 혼합된 이색성 색소를 포함하고,값 KM, 색소 농도 c% 및 액정층의 두께 d ㎛의 곱 KMcd는3.0S2- 7.3S + 5.7 ≤ KMcd ≤ 14.7S2- 15.1S + 6.15를 만족하도록 설정되고, 여기서 상기 값 KM은 KM= 3k1/(1 + 2S) 혹은 KM= 3k2/(1 - S) 로 표현되며,여기서 K1은 상기 액정 분자들에 대하여 실질적으로 평행한 직선 편광의 흡광 계수를 나타내고; K2는 상기 액정 분자들에 대하여 실질적으로 수직인 직선 편광의 흡광 계수를 나타내며; S는 그 안에 혼합된 상기 이색성 색소를 포함하는 상기 액정 재료의 오더 파라미터(order parameter)를 나타내고, 상기 액정층 양단에 인가된 전압의 실효값은 약 0V 내지 5V의 범위내에 있음을 특징으로 하는 반사형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 자발적으로 트위스트 구조(twisted structure)를 가지는 키랄 물질(chiral material)이 상기 액정 재료에 첨가됨에 의해, 상기 액정층이 트위스트 구조를 가지게 되는 것을 특징으로 하는 반사형 액정 표시 장치.
