Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify internal structure and to reduce power consumption by forming each cathod like a linear cathod and sharing one cathod by two fluorescent display parts. CONSTITUTION: Linear cathods 4 having low excitation voltage and small power consumption are used and each cathod 4 is shared by two fluorescent display parts 8. The fluorescent display device is provided with 2nd control electrodes 10 arranged correspondingly to the cathods 4, 3rd control electrodes 12 arranged on both the sides of each electrode 10 and a plate-like 1st control electrode 14 arranged between the display parts 8 and the cathods 4 and having the same number of aperture parts 15 as the number of display parts 8. Thereby thermoelectrons from respective cathods 4 are controlled and discharged by the electrodes 10, their kinetic states are controlled by the electrodes 12, the controlled thermoelectrons collide with the display parts 8 through the apertures of the electrode 14, and the intensity of each display part 8 is independently controlled so as to emit light. Consequently power consumption can be reduced, peripheral circuits for the control electrodes can be reduced and the internal structure of the display device can be simplified.
