Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption of costly electric power by inserting burners into an electric furnace and supplying fuel and oxygen thereto so that the combustion with the burners is executed in the high temp. range of the raw materials in the furnace at the time of reducing and dissolving Ni-contg. ore in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:The raw material consisting of the Ni-contg. ore and carbonaceous reducing agent in a preheated state in raw materials bins 5 are supplied through charging pipes 6 running through the furnace cap 3 of the electric furnace 1 into the furnace and are reduced and dissolved by energizing plural electrodes 4. A metal layer 7 and a slag layer 8 are thereby formed and are respectively removed from a metal hole 12 and a slag hole 13. Waste gases are discharged from a flue 11. The plural burners 10 are inserted through the cap 3 into the high temp. range of the raw materials and the fuel such as heavy oil and fine coal is supplied by an oxygen-contg. gas from the tips of the burners so that the fuel is burned in this constitution. The consumption of the costly electric power is thereby reduced and the energy cost is reduced.
