Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the title copolymer in good efficiency without using any Lewis acid, by copolymerizing ethylene with an unsaturated carboxylic ester by using a catalyst system comprising an Ni(O) chelate compound and an aluminoxane. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is copolymerized with an unsaturated carboxylic ester in the presence of a catalyst system comprising an Ni(O) chelate compound (A) of formula I (wherein Y<1> and Y<3> are elements of Group Vb, Y<2> is an element of Group VI b, R<1>-R<8> are each H, a 1-20 C alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkoxy, halogen residue, hydroxy residue or the like) and an aluminoxane (B) of formula II or III (wherein R<9> and R<10> are each a 1-20 C alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl residue, or the like, and R<10> may be a halogen residue, and n is an integer). By using said catalyst system, the title copolymer can be produced in high activity without using any Lewis acid.
