Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a matrix type optical switch at a low cost, by providing an input side optical waveguide and an output side optical waveguide formed by placing plural optical waveguides in parallel, so as to cross with each other, and optically coupling the side crossing part by pressure. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of parallel input optical fibers 1a and output optical fibers 1b are placed so as to diagonally cross with each other. When an optical signal is applied in advance to input fibers 1a1-1a4 and pressure is put on a point A, light is transmitted to an output optical fiber 1b1 from the input optical fiber 1a2. In the same way, when pressure is put on a point B, light is transmitted to an output optical fiber 1b3 from the input optical fiber 1a4. In this case, by providing a cavity 3 on the contact part of the optical fiber 1a and 1b, the transmission quantity is increased. In this way, a matrix type optical switch is obtained at a low cost.

The present invention will be explained based on examples. FIG. 2 shows the present invention f-
As shown in the simplified perspective view 7/illustration 0 showing the embodiment, a plurality of input optical fibers ta and output optical fibers lb are arranged orthogonally intersecting each other, and each input/output fiber Ha

Now, when an optical signal is applied to the input optical fiber lJ~114 and force is applied from above to point A in Figure 1, the input optical fiber 1- and the output optical fiber! - Contact the company. Further, when force is applied from above to point B, the input optical fiber 114 and the output 7 eyeper 1bs come into contact in the same way. In this case, a tensine is added to each of the fibers 11 and 9 so that each of the fibers ta and tb becomes a straight line.

In this manner, light is transmitted from the input side to the output side by applying pressure (touching with a finger in the case of a keyboard switch) to the output side, and nine input/output connections are made according to each intersection. In addition, in the case of a round rod-shaped contact such as an optical fiber, point II
Since the amount of light transmitted is small, as shown in the first-person diagram (
By providing recesses 8 at the contact portions of the input and output cuff fibers m and lb to improve the coupling between each fiber 1m and lb', it is possible to increase the amount of transmission at t+.
