Abstract

PURPOSE: To selectively concentrate and separate C4 hydrocarbons having a high permeable factor by using a polyolefinic membrane to separate and concentrate a mixture of C4 hydrocarbons.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed fluid essentially consisting of C4 hydrocarbons charged in a reservoir 1 in a thermostat 3 to control vapor pressure is controlled in pressure by a pressure-regulating valve 2, and is guided into a separating cell 4 in a thermostat 3'. The component passed through membrane M of the cell 4 is devided into a system A, one not passing the membrane M is into a system B. Both components are passed through respective pressure regulating valves 5, 5', then are sampled by gas samplers 6, 6', and analyzed. The membrane M uses a polyolefin membrane, for example, high density or low density PE, PP of about 0.1W200μ thickness, etc. The fluid concentration and separation temperature is normally set to about -50W 120°C, the primary pressure to about 3W100kg/cm2, and the secondary pressure at vacuum to about 10kg/cm2. The process provides a means to selectively concentrate and separate a C4 hydrocarbon, particularly the component A having double bond from C4 hydrocarbon mixture whose separation is difficult by the prior methods.
