Description
(1)光フェルール1は、上壁10と、底壁11と、上壁10及び底壁11と共に内側にガイド開口部14を形成するように、上壁10及び底壁11に接続される一対の向かい合う側壁12及び13と、上壁10及びガイド開口部14から前方に延出するガイド部15と、上壁10の上面上に位置する光結合器20と、を提供する。光結合器20は、光ファイバ2を整列させて保持する整列部21と、光方向変換器22とを有する。光方向変換器22は、整列部21によって整列及び位置決めされる光ファイバ2からの入射光を受光する入射面221又は223と、入射面221又は223から入射軸L11又はL21に沿って伝搬された光を受光し、次いで受光した光を反射する、光方向変換面222と、光方向変換面222からの光を受光し、受光した光を出射軸L13又はL23に沿って伝搬し、次いでこの光を、光フェルール1A又は1Bから放射する出射光として伝送する出射面223又は221と、を有する。光フェルール1A及び1Bは一体構造を有する。
(3)光フェルール1は、ガイド部15の上面151及び底面152から突出し、かつ光フェルール1の長さ方向に沿って延在する第1の突出部153及び154と、上壁10の底面106及び底壁11の上面111から突出し、かつ光フェルール1の長さ方向に沿ってガイド開口部14に向かって延在する第2の突出部107及び112と、を提供する。したがって、ガイド部15の上面及び下面、並びにガイド開口部14の上面及び下面において、高精度に加工することが必要なのは、第1の突出部153及び154、並びに第2の突出部107及び112だけであるので、加工費を低減することができる。
(4)光フェルール1Aのうちの1つは、他の光フェルール1Bの長さ方向に対して平行な嵌合方向に沿って嵌合するように作製されているので、光フェルール1A及び1Bの長さ方向に延在する光ファイバ2は、略直線状に接続されることができる。
(5)第1の光フェルール1A及び第2の光フェルール1Bのガイド部15はいずれも、それぞれ、対向する第1の光フェルール1A及び第2の光フェルール1Bのガイド開口部14の内側に挿入されるので、第1の光フェルール1Aと第2の光フェルール1Bとを容易に嵌合させることができる。
(6)第1の光フェルール1Aと第2の光フェルール1Bとが嵌合すると、第1の光フェルール1A及び第2の光フェルール1Bの第1の突出部153及び154は、対向する第1の光フェルール1A及び第2の光フェルール1Bの第2の突出部107及び112に、スライドするように接続するので、ガイド部15とガイド開口部14との接触面積が小さくなり、ガイド開口部14内へのガイド部15の挿入が容易になる。第1の突出部153及び154は断面矩形状を有して形成され、第2の突出部107及び112は断面三角状を有して形成されるので、ガイド部15とガイド開口部14とは、左右の2点において線接触している状態となり、接触面積は小さくなるが、ガイド部15をガイド開口部14内部で安定させて支持することができる。

Claims (2)
- 上壁と、
前記上壁と反対側の底壁と、
前記上壁及び前記底壁と共に内側にガイド開口部を形成するように、互いに向かい合い、かつ前記上壁と前記底壁とを接続する一対の側壁と、
前記上壁及び前記ガイド開口部から前方に延出するガイド部と、
前記上壁が光結合器と前記ガイド開口部との間に配置されるように前記上壁の上面上に設けられた光結合器と、を備える光フェルールであって、
前記光結合器は、光導波路を整列させて保持する導波路整列部と、光方向変換器と、を有し、
前記光方向変換器は、
前記導波路整列部によって整列及び配置される前記光導波路からの入射光を受光する入射面と、
入射軸に沿って伝搬された前記入射面からの光を受光し、かつ前記受光した光を反射する光方向変換面であって、反射光は、前記光方向変換面によって、前記入射軸と異なる方向変換された軸に沿って伝搬される、光方向変換面と、
前記光方向変換面からの光を受光し、前記受光した光を出射軸に沿って伝搬し、かつ前記光を、前記光フェルールから放射された出射光として伝送する、出射面と、を含み、
前記光フェルールは一体構造を有する、光フェルール。 - 互いに嵌合する、請求項1に記載の第1の光フェルール及び第2の光フェルールであって、
それぞれの前記第1の光フェルール及び前記第2の光フェルールの前記ガイド部が、前記第1の光フェルール及び前記第2の光フェルールの、対向する側にある前記ガイド開口部の中に挿入される、第1の光フェルール及び第2の光フェルール。
