Claims (18)
- 液晶分子がホモジニアス配向で配列された液晶層と、該液晶層を挟み込み互いに対向する2つの透明基板とを備え、各画素が反射領域と透過領域とを有する液晶セルと、前記透過領域で、前記液晶セルを挟み込む位置に、偏光軸が互いに直交するように配置された一対の偏光板と、前記反射領域で、前記液晶セルの表示面側に、前記一対の偏光板のうちで前記透過領域の表示面側に配置した偏光板と同じ偏光軸を有する偏光板とを有する液晶パネルであって、
前記反射領域では、前記表示面側の偏光板から入射した光を反射するための反射板と前記液晶層との間、前記透過領域では、光入射側の偏光板と液晶層との間に、位相差層を有し、該位相差層の遅相軸と前記液晶層における液晶分子の電圧無印加時の液晶配列方向とが直交し、かつ、前記透過領域の光入射側の偏光板の偏光軸と前記位相差層の遅相軸とは直交又は平行であり、
黒表示時の液晶ダイレクタ方向が、前記反射領域と前記透過領域とで異なることを特徴とする半透過型液晶表示装置。 - 前記反射領域及び透過領域の表示面側の偏光板が、前記反射領域及び前記透過領域を覆って延在している、請求項1に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域における光源側の偏光板が、前記反射領域と前記透過領域とを覆って延在している、請求項1又は2に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記反射領域の位相差層と前記透過領域の位相差層は、少なくとも接している、請求項1〜3の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記反射領域の位相差層及び前記透過領域の位相差とは、前記反射領域と前記透過領域とを覆うように延在しており、同一の位相差を有する、請求項4に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域における黒表示時の液晶分子配列方向はほぼ初期配列方向であり、前記反射領域における黒表示時の液晶分子配列方向は、初期配列方向から20°乃至25°回転した方向である、請求項1〜5の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域で、黒表示時に、前記液晶層に電界を印加するための画素電極と共通電極とに供給される電位差が、前記反射領域で、前記液晶層に電界を印加するための画素電極と共通電極とに供給される電位差よりも小さい、請求項6に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記反射領域における液晶駆動と、前記透過領域における液晶駆動とが、反転駆動である、請求項1〜7の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記反射領域がノーマリホワイトで、前記透過領域がノーマリブラックである、請求項1〜8の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記位相差層の位相差が、ほぼλ/4である、請求項1〜9の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層が、IPSモードで駆動される、請求項1〜10の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記位相差層の上面、又は、下面に、前記液晶層を駆動するための画素電極及び共通電極が形成される、請求項1〜11の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域での光源側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層の光学特性が等方性であり、前記光源側の偏光板の光透過軸と前記位相差層の遅相軸とがほぼ直交する、請求項1〜12の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記表示面側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層の光学特性が等方性である、請求項1〜13の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域での光源側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層が、基板垂直方向に光軸を持つ正の一軸の位相差を有し、前記表示面側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層の光学特性が等方性である、請求項1〜12の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域での光源側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層の厚み方向のリタデーションが180nm以下である、請求項15に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域での光源側の偏光板における前記液晶層側の偏光子保護層の光学特性が等方性であり、該偏光子保護層と前記位相差層との間に、基板面に垂直方向に光軸を持つ正の一軸の位相差板を更に配置し、前記偏光子保護層と前記位相差板とを合わせた厚み方向のリタデーションが180nm以下である、請求項1〜12の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
- 前記透過領域での光源側の偏光板の光透過軸と、前記液晶層における透過領域での電圧無印加時の液晶配向方向とがほぼ平行である、請求項15〜17の何れか一に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置。
