Description
本願は、米国仮特許出願第60/599,215号、発明の名称“低温成形方法及びそれから製造される生分解性物(Low-Temperature Molding Process and Biodegradable Articles Prepared Therefrom)”(2004年8月5日出願)に基づく優先権を主張し、これを引用によってその全体を本明細書に援用する。
本発明は低温成形方法に関する。特に、小麦グルテンから固体生分解性物を製造するのに使用される低温成形方法に関する。
廃棄物処理は今日の世界における主要な地球規模の問題である。人口増加と多くのポリマー材料の使用とが相まって、非生分解性材料で一杯の巨大埋立てが出現している。より生分解性の材料を創製しようとする努力がなされている。こうした努力は主に、日光に暴露されると分解するポリマーの製造や、通常環境条件又はコンポスト条件下の温度、湿度、及び微生物作用で比較的短時間のうちに分解するようなデンプン及びその他の植物タンパク質由来の材料の製造に集中している。
本発明の別の目的は、小麦グルテンの乾燥は伴うが調理は伴わない低温成形方法を提供することであり、これにより、小麦グルテンタンパク質の一次構造は本質的に不変のままである。
全般的に、本発明は小麦グルテンから固体生分解性物を製造する方法に向けられている。水和小麦グルテンを凝集性弾性生地(cohesive, elastic dough)の形態で用意する。この凝集性弾性生地は少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む。該凝集性弾性生地を成形物に成形し、小麦グルテンタンパク質の一次構造を変更せずに、成形生地から過剰の水を除去するに足る環境に置き、少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む固体生分解性物を得る。本発明の固体生分解性物の例は、食品貯蔵容器;食器類;飲料容器;箱類;玩具類;生物包帯;医療用移植片;フィルタ;及び生分解性絶縁材のような品目を含み、各固体生分解性物は少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む。
本発明によって、小麦グルテンから固体生分解性物を製造するための低温方法が提供される。原理的には、成形物を、過剰の水を除去するに充分な環境に置くことで、乾燥して固体の生分解性物にする。可塑剤として作用するような多少の水が成形物に残ることが望ましい。従って、成形物の外部の乾燥と、成形物の内部からの水の拡散とのバランスを取る必要がある。このバランスは、低温の適用、環境中の湿度の制御、又は低温と低湿度条件の両方によって達成される。低温とは、適用される任意の室温を超える熱(約60℃未満の温度まで)を意味し、これは過剰の水分を除去するために適用されるのであって小麦グルテンタンパク質の一次構造は変化させない。特に、小麦グルテンが実際に調理されたり(小麦グルテンの膨張によってその証拠が示される)、熱による分解を受けるのは望ましくない。むしろ目的は成形物を乾燥させるのに資する環境を提供することである。従って、軟質の内部を有する物は、本発明の方法によって製造される固体生分解性物としては適切でないか又は望ましくない。しかしながら、乾燥中に低熱を使用した結果、物の表面に生じる多少の表在的損傷は許容可能であり、当業者であればそのことは理解するであろう。
Claims (21)
- 固体生分解性物の製造方法であって、以下のステップ:
a)凝集性弾性生地の形態の水和小麦グルテンを用意するステップ(前記凝集性弾性生地は少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含み、前記小麦グルテンは一次構造を有するタンパク質を含む);
b)凝集性弾性生地を25℃未満の温度で圧縮成形して成形物に成形するステップ;及び
c)前記成形物を、小麦グルテンタンパク質の一次構造を変更せずに成形物から過剰の水を除去するに充分な環境に置き、少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む固体生分解性物を得るステップ;
を含む、前記の方法。 - 前記成形物が60℃未満の温度を有する環境に置かれる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記成形物が循環空気環境に置かれる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 圧縮成形して成形物に成形するステップb)が、
b)-1)凝集性弾性生地を平板状にするステップ;
b)-2)平板状にした生地を雄型部分と雌型部分を有する金型に入るステップ;及び
b)-3)金型内の平板状生地を圧縮して成形物を形成するステップ;
を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。 - さらに、以下のステップ:
b)-4)金型の雄型部分を除去し(生地を含有する雌型部分が残る)、金型の雌型部分を含む生地を、生地が形をとるまで25℃未満の温度を有する環境に戻すステップ;
b)-5)金型の雄型部分を生地の上に戻し金型の雌型部分を除去するステップ(生地は金型の雄型部分の上に配置される);
b)-6)生地が上に配置された金型の雄型部分を、生地が形をとるまで25℃未満の温度を有する環境に戻すステップ;
b)-7)金型の雌型部分を生地の上に戻して金型の雄型部分を除去するステップ(生地は金型の雌型部分に含有される);
b)-8)生地を含有する金型の雌型部分を、生地が形をとるまで25℃未満の温度を有する環境に戻すステップ;
b)-9)生地が乾燥して手で触れるようになるまでステップb〜eを繰り返すステップ;
b)-10)金型の雄型部分と金型の雌型部分を生地から除去し成形物を得るステップ;及び
b)-11)成形物が手で触っても変形しなくなるまで、成形物を25℃未満の温度を有する環境に置くステップ;
を含む、請求項4に記載の方法。 - ステップb)-1)とb)-2)の間に、生地を25℃未満の温度を有する環境に置くステップをさらに含み、ここでステップb)-3)において平板状生地は2バール〜25バールの範囲の圧力を用いて圧縮される、請求項4又は5に記載の方法。
- 請求項5に記載の方法によって製造される固体生分解性物であって、少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む、前記固体生分解性物。
- 前記環境が5℃〜20℃の範囲の温度を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 成形物から過剰の水を除去するに充分な温度を有する環境中で空気を循環させるステップをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 成形物に水を適用するステップをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 環境中の湿度を制御するステップをさらに含み、前記環境は小麦グルテンタンパク質の一次構造を変更せずに過剰の水を除去するのに充分である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法によって製造される固体生分解性物であって、少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む前記固体生分解性物。
- 固体生分解性物が、食品貯蔵容器;食器類;飲料容器;箱類;玩具類;生物包帯;医療用移植片;フィルタ;及び生分解性絶縁材からなる群から選ばれる、請求項12に記載の固体生分解性物。
- 撥水剤コーティングを固体生分解性物に適用するステップをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が漂白剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が架橋剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が可塑剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が防腐剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が、殺菌剤、顔料、紫外線安定剤及び酸化防止剤からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一つの添加剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 凝集性弾性生地が生分解性ポリマーを含み、前記凝集性弾性生地は少なくとも8重量%の小麦グルテンを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- ダイを使用して凝集性弾性生地を成形物に成形する、請求項1に記載の方法。
