Description
本発明は、一般的には車両乗員保護システムに関し、より具体的には、膨張式保護装置の組み込まれた車両乗員保護システムに使用するインフレータに関する。
本発明は、ハウジングを備え、このハウジングは、内部と、その長さ全体にわたって形成された、複数のガス出口オリフィスとを有する。液状または揺変性(thixotropic)のガス源材料が、ハウジング内部に配置されて、柔軟で、破裂可能(rupturable)な実質的にガスおよび水分に不透過性の容器内に封入されている。ガス源は、分解を起こすことによって、膨張ガスを含む、少なくとも1種のガス状分解生成物を形成するように適合された、材料(例えば、過酸化水素)である。反応物質も、ハウジングの内部に配置される。反応物質は、ガス源材料と反応して、ガス源材料の分解を発生させるように配合された材料(例えば、触媒)である。カバー(enclosure)がハウジング内に配置されて、ハウジングの内壁とカバーとの間に、空隙を形成している。反応物質は、この空隙に配置される。カバーを貫通して形成された複数のオリフィスによって、カバーの内部と空隙との間の流体連通が可能となる。容器は、カバー内に配置される。弾力のある、拡張可能なブラダー(bladder:袋)もカバー内に配置される。燃焼ガスを生成するための、推進剤がブラダー内部に設けられ、推進剤の点火時に、ブラダーの膨張を発生させる。推進剤に点火するための、点火源が設けられる。推進剤の点火時に、燃焼ガスは、ブラダーを拡張させて、このブラダーが容器の一部分をカバーのオリフィス中に押し込み、それによって、オリフィス内の容器のその部分に力をかけ破裂させて、過酸化水素を放出して、オリフィスを通過して空隙中に流し、そこで過酸化水素は触媒と反応して膨張ガスを生成する。本明細書において記述するインフレータは、膨張式車両乗員拘束システムの要素を膨張させるための、確実で、小型、安価に製造され、かつ容易に組み立てられる無毒性膨張ガスの発生源を供給する。
図1および図2に示すように、インフレータ10は、第1端12a、第2端12b、および内部13を画定する、細長い、実質的に円筒状のハウジング12を含む。複数のオリフィス14が、ハウジングに沿って縦方向に間隔を空けて配置されており、ハウジングの内部とハウジングの外部との流体連通を可能にし、ここでハウジング12は、例えば、エアバッグまたは膨張式クッション15と流体連通する。オリフィス14は、図1、2に示すものと、その数または設計が変わってもよい。ハウジング12は、金属シートから圧延成形されて、次いで穿孔される。膨張ガスをフィルタリングすること、および/またはハウジング12内部に反応物質を保持するために、ワイヤまたはカーボングラファイトメッシュから当該技術において知られている方法で形成された、スクリーンまたはフィルタ26を、ハウジングの内部と複数のハウジングオリフィスとの間に配置してもよい。
図2Aおよび図2Bを参照すると、容器24の第1の態様は、フィルムの2つの層24a、24bを含み、この2つの層は、その部分に沿って(例えば、熱シールによって)接合されて、層の間に1つまたは2つ以上の気密シール区画25を画定するシーム21をもたらす。ある特定の態様において、各区画25には、実質的に等しい量のガス源材料20がその中に配置されている。これによって、ガス源材料20を、インフレータ10の全長に沿って実質的に均一に配置するのが容易となる。
上記のような方法で、層29には、ブラダー42が層29をオリフィス34に対して押し付ける場合に、層の破裂を防止するのに十分な強度が与えられている。すなわち、ブラダー42の膨張によっては破裂不能であるフィルム層29は、ブラダーとオリフィス34の間に挿入されている。これは、フィルム層27の破裂後に、オリフィス34におけるブラダー42の破裂を防止する助けとなる。
Claims (8)
- ハウジング;
前記ハウジングの内部に配置された、ある量のガス源材料であって、分解して、膨張ガスを含む少なくとも1種のガス状分解生成物を含む、分解生成物を形成するように配合された、前記ガス源材料;
前記ガス源材料と隔離されて、前記ハウジング内に配置されたある量の反応物質であって、該反応物質は、前記ガス源材料と反応して前記ガス源材料の分解を発生させるように選択されており、前記ガス源材料は、破裂可能な容器内に収納され、前記反応物質は、前記破裂可能な容器の破裂時に、前記ガス源材料と連通するようにされた、前記反応物質;および
ハウジング内に配置されて、前記ハウジングの外壁との間に空隙を形成するカバーであって、内部と、それに沿って形成された複数のオリフィスとを有して、該カバーの内部と前記ハウジングの内部との流体連通を可能にする、前記カバー、ここで、前記カバーの内部に、容器が配置され
前記容器の破裂を発生させて、前記ガス源材料と前記反応物質の間の流体連通を可能にする、機構;
を含み、
ここで、容器の破裂を発生させる機構は、前記容器の一部分をカバーに形成された複数のオリフィスの少なくとも1つのオリフィス中に押し込み、それによって、前記少なくとも1つのオリフィス内の前記容器のその部分に応力をかけて破裂させ、前記容器の内容物を放出して、前記オリフィスを介して空隙中に流す、インフレータ。 - ガス源材料は、液体過酸化水素を含む、請求項1に記載のインフレータ。
- 反応物質は、マンガン酸塩および酸化第二銅;銀;マンガン酸塩;過マンガン酸カリウム、過マンガン酸カリウムおよびアルミナビーズ、ならびにそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、触媒を含む、請求項2に記載のインフレータ。
- カバーは、多孔質材料で形成される、請求項1に記載のインフレータ。
- 容器の破裂を発生させる機構は、カバーの内部に配置された、弾力があり、拡張可能なブラダーを含み、それによって、該ブラダーは、拡張時に、前記容器と接触して、前記容器の一部分を複数のカバーオリフィスの少なくとも1つのオリフィス中に押し込み、それによって、前記少なくとも1つのオリフィス内の前記容器のその部分に応力をかけて破裂させる、請求項1に記載のインフレータ。
- 容器の破裂を発生させる機構は、ブラダー内に配置された推進剤であって、それに点火されると燃焼ガスを生成してブラダーの拡張を発生させるための前記推進剤と、該推進剤に点火するための点火源とをさらに含む、請求項5に記載のインフレータ。
- 以下を含むエアバッグシステム:
