(2)転走面を有するため高周波焼入れ後に高い硬度を必要とする部分がある。このため炭素含有率が高い鋼、たとえばS53C、SAE1050を用いるので、加工における変形抵抗が高くなる。

本発明例6は、V、Ti、Nbを含まず熱間鍛造温度を極端に低下させた点に特徴がある。熱間鍛造温度を950℃程度まで低下させると変形抵抗が増大し、鍛造型の寿命が短命化するので製造現場では採用が難しいが、熱間鍛造された鋼の性能を調査する目的で行なった。
Siが0.15重量%未満では焼入性が低く、強度を十分確保することができない。また、Siが0.7重量%を超えると熱間鍛造の際に脱炭を促進して深い脱炭層を形成するため、Siは0.7重量%以下とする。脱炭層をより一層抑制するためには、Siは0.5重量%以下とすることができ、さらに脱炭層を避けるためには0.4重量%以下とするのがよい。
Mnが0.1重量%未満では鋼中の硫黄(S)をMnSとして固定できないために熱間鍛造の際にひび割れ等を生じやすいの0.1重量%以上とする。Mnは焼入性を向上させ、鋼中に固溶して鋼を強靭化するとともに、転動寿命に有益な残留オーステナイトを増やす。しかし、Mnは炭化物中にも固溶して炭化物の硬度を高める作用があり鋼の硬度上昇に有効である。したがって、強靭化を重視する場合、0.25重量%以上含むのがよい。しかし、0.5重量%を超えると、熱間鍛造後の放冷時にフェライト生成を抑制し硬化組織となりやすく、切削加工や加締め加工性などに支障をきたすので0.5重量%以下とすることができる。
V炭化物、V窒化物またはV炭窒化物は、熱間鍛造前の加熱によりオーステナイト中にほとんど固溶するが、熱間鍛造後放冷中に析出し、フェライト核発生サイトとして機能する。これらV析出物はオーステナイト粒内の介在物等の上に析出し、さらにこのV析出物を核にフェライトが生成する。すなわち粒状フェライトの生成を促進し、その結果、フェライト面積率を増加させる。上記作用はV0.04重量%以上により得ることができる。さらに確実の上記作用を得るためには0.06重量%含むことが望ましい。また、Vが0.15重量%を超えると上記の効果が飽和するので、0.15重量%以下とする。

- 内周に複列の転走面を有する外方部材と、前記転走面に対向する転走面を有する内方部材と、前記対向する複列の転走面間に介在する転動体とを有し、
前記内方部材は、第1内方部材と第2内方部材とからなり、
前記第1内方部材を加締め部にて加締めることによって前記第1内方部材と第2内方部材とを結合させ、車体に対して車輪を回転自在に支持する車輪用軸受装置において、
少なくとも前記加締め部のオーステナイト粒の粒度番号が6番以上であり、
前記第1内方部材のフェライト面積率が10〜30%であり、フェライトパーライト組織のオーステナイト粒内に粒状フェライトが分散している、車輪用軸受装置。 - 前記第1内方部材がハブ輪であり、前記第2内方部材が内輪であり、そのハブ輪の端部を加締めて内輪と結合する、請求項1に記載の車輪用軸受装置。
- 前記第2内方部材がハブ輪であり、前記第1内方部材が等速ジョイントの外側継手部材であり、前記外側継手部材の軸部はハブ輪の内径孔に挿通し、該軸部を拡径加締めすることによりハブ輪と結合する、請求項1に記載の車輪用軸受装置。
